Amy Winehouse passes away at 27 years of age
Amy Winehouse was found dead at her Camden home in North London today, Saturday 23 July 2011,reports seatlepi.com. Born in 1983, she was only 27 years old at the time of her death. The course of death was not yet known at the time of going to press.
The music industry and the world lose another music talent.
Around the same time last year, the world lost one of the most iconic, legendary musicians and performers of all time-Michael Jackson at the age of 50. This year, Gill Scot-Heron of "The revolution will not be televised" fame passed away. Amy, a talented songwriter with an amazing voice, is no longer with us. The world moans the death of such a young gifted and troubled soul. Her 2007 album “Back to Black” won her 5 Grammy awards. The album from my perspective truly deserved the accolade of “New sound” and her voice was nothing less than emotionally charged and beautiful.
Troubled Life
Amy lived a troubled life plagued with drug abuse and relationship problems. This deeply affected her performances and her career in the latter part of her life. The young star had been in the press for drunken brawls, her stays in rehabilitation and hospital. It is a sad thing to note that she did not live long enough to enjoy her successes. Much as the Stars around the world showed their sympathy, the situation begs the question, has the music industry not learned to take care of its own? So many young stars have been lost in a similar pattern-or as Michael sang -”They don’t really care about us”. And from the star angle, it is obvious there is only so much one can do to help someone, but not until her death do we see any form of concern about Amy in the press. Is there no real bond amongst you all? Do you have to wait until a fellow musician dies to say something?”
Celebrities shocked
The celebrity world delivered its shock and condolences on the popular social micro blogging site, Twitter. Amy seems to have had the sympathy of this group behind her but sadly it was not enough to keep her off the trail of self-destruction. Some very moving tributes for her can be found in the links below. On this point it is worthy to mention that lack of mentorship also raised its creepy head in the case of one young celebrity, Selena Gomez. Her comments are not really forth coming at a time of loss and grief; I feel that despite all our wrong doings, we deserve respect in our final departure. Her unguided statement ended with “…see how drugs kill people? RIP”. I think she should have better public relations than that.
So long Amy
An inspiration to the young of the world
Your troubled ship finally gave in
Yet your voice will remain forever and beautifully bold
Through the wave of life, your genius we will always rejoice in
Nothing more to say
Than just that- this is how it all unfolds-So long Amy.

I am not a personal fan of Amy Winehouse. But young death is sad. Her family and friends are likely hurting. I am lucky that I have never been addicted to anything. And cooldad, art is an individual expression and feeling. You didn't care for her. Other people did. I don't want anyone to die young. I agree that genius as a term is often overused, but what you see as just another dead junkie is obviously a singer who interests Alladream greatly. To each his own.
This is very sad.
So sad. Drugs are a real problem. I think people that over use drugs have an underlying problem and need help, but they are not getting it. Many doctors just medicate and do not take care of the real problems. UGGGGH
Alladream- thanks for listening to my opinion, i do appreciate it. I always appreciate someone with an open mind. I respect your opinion as well.
Very good hub! This is the first I've heard of this. It is unfortunate that so many musicians seem to struggle with addictions. Definitely sad to see a young, talented woman come to such an end.
Thanks for writing this Amigo. I appreciate it. I think Amy does too. Cheers!
...always love your hubs my friend - no matter what the context may be ..... because you have heart, passion, enthusiasm and you always leave your very own signature on every hub you put together!
lake erie time ontario, Canada - just arrived home after work 4:01am
I was so sad to hear of her passing although I knew she was struggling with her addictions. I thought her music was great too and too bad she's gone before she can give the world more of her talent. I can't imagine what her family is going through.
I agree with you. She was too young and had more to give as an artist and a person.
Terribly sad. I was hoping that she'd get it together, but alas, it never happened. She was a legend up there with Billie Holiday, methinks, in terms of her evocative voice - so sad that she didn't live long enough to give us more music.
I missed this Hub. It was sad. I really like her. She had a sort of "soulful" voice.
I wish there were people around her that sincerely cared about her mental and well being not just how many records she sold.
Anyway... her music will live on.
Lovely Hub.
Alladream , I have to say I loved her voice , her style , her delivery , yes! a genious ! But unfortunately a downhill run!........:-}

Musical genius??? Wow, not sure I can agree with that comment. I think the word genius is thrown around too liberally these days. She's just another dead junkie. It's sad, but it's reality.
Social Darwinism wins again.
I don't have much sympathy for a person who has the world at her feet and still screws it up. I'm just going out on a limb and guessing that she overdosed.
Addiction is such a horrible thing. So horrible that even people with unlimited resources can't figure it out.
I was kind of hoping that Lady Gaga or Lil Wayne would go first. Oh well.
