Most Comedy Tends to Either Go Very Dark or Just Not Be Funny at All

The Hangover and Midnight run are movies that I found to be pretty funny. With so much being produced and the tug of war between quality and the market, it becomes hard to get real quality comedy.

Midnight Run is 1988 comedy written by George Gallo starring Robert De Niro and Charles Grodin
Genre: Action | Adventure | Comedy | Crime | Thriller
Plot(from IMDB) "Bounty hunter Jack Walsh is sent to find and return bail jumper and former Mafia accountant, Jonathan "The Duke" Mardukas. The FBI have had no success in locating The Duke, so when Jack finds him in next to no time, they are a little embarrassed. In order to collect his $100,000 fee, Jack must take The Duke from New York to Los Angeles."

Why you might enjoy it
The movie offers a good story line told at a steady pace that is neither as rushed nor complicated as the cuts in The Bourne Supremacy. Midnight Run is shot inand edited in a way that is very friendly to the eye. The human element is also extended in the way that the two main characters relationship develops. George Gallo's writing gives the movie a quality that is almost timeless, unlike other 80's movies, Midnight Run is more about the human relationships than time and place. This makes it more accessible at a different time. The humour that comes out of the desperation of being stuck with someone you neither want to know nor like, is well articulated in the movie.

The Hangover has been very well recieved in England and America. It is indeed worthy of the title "Best Comedy to come in ages.

Written by Jon Lucas and Scott Moore and directed by Todd Phillips
Genre:Comedy
Plot (form IMdb) A Las Vegas-set comedy centered around three groomsmen who lose their about-to-be-wed buddy during their drunken misadventures, then must retrace their steps in order to find him.

Why you might enjoy it
Great story telling and comic timing. The story unravels in the most unexpected way as the movie progresses. Former heavyweight Boxing champion,Mike Tyson's cameo was totally hilarious. (It absolutely survived losing the "cameo" surprise factor when it was featured in the trailer.)What happens in the movie is borderline insanity. The characters are really likeable people who can pass as your regular Joe. The movie was well written, well acted and well directed. I certainly give this one 100% thumbs up.

Interesting combo, I gotta admit, I was disappointed with the Hangover. It received so much marketing hype, it was okay I thought, but overrated! It reminded me of a less funny "Pineapple Express", I'd be interested in what you thought of that one Alladream!

I'll try and remember to watch Midnight Run, it rings a bell.
