The silence that hurts us-Speak out. Get issues off your back.
60Bankers are the real looters
The foundation
This article is inspired by some statements that came out of commentaries by those in charge after the 2011 London riots. The youth are being blamed for thuggery, in most cases rightfully so. In other cases, there is a lot to be accounted for by the parents when a generation turns out the way it does. The powers that be also have major socio-economic issues, if a section of the population resorts to looting for any reason. All behaviour has a cause. As Einstein said, to paraphrase him, every action has an equally powerful and opposite reaction.
Speak out
Part of speaking out involves the active reception of the message. If the message fails to get a response. SO the aspect of speaking out is bi-directional. There is the speaker and the listener. The listener then becomes the speaker when giving a response. In both cases there is a need to hear and to be heard. The break down of this dialogue leads to trouble.
Where words fail
David Starkeys infamous comments-"The whites have become black"
"The Whites have become black"
The Historian, David Starkey shocked most of Britain and certainly offended people ,both black and white. He remarked that the white people had become black, that is why the riots were all about looting and criminality. I was utterly shocked by his statement, as were the panelists he was in discussion with. Ed Milliband put down Starkey's comments as blatant racism.
Below is the full video from BBC and below that is a response from an African comedian living in Britain.
I would love to hear what you think about these remarks and the status of race relations where you are. Let us talk about it and move forward.

LIved through all this wid ya. Apart from the blatant racism (which we're all guilty of in speech or thought sometimes)there is a lot of truth in the fact that young white youths from poor backgrounds admire and emulate much of ghetto African American, or Caribbean Negro mannerisms, music and style. It's cool, or so they think. What that has to do with looting I don't understand. Racist remarks from people in the public eye are never helpful and only said to get the speaker attention or votes...Bob
Hi Alladream! You have brought an interesting topic to the forefront with your hub.
While it is a shame that Mr. Starkey made the negative comment, I have come to learn that it is better to know who your enemy is by virtue of their loose tongue. The people that hide their negative words behind so-called friendly smiles are the ones to be most concerned about.
You hit a homerun with this hub!
It's just bullshit Victor! I also will take exception to what diogenes says "Apart from the blatant racism (which we're all guilty of in speech or thought sometimes)? That's bullshit too man, I've NEVER been guilty of that in thought or actions. In fact his whole rant sounds suspect to me. Great hub, I'm just getting caught up from my vacation and I think I've missed a few of your hubs. I'm tryin' Peace!! Tom
Interesting and thought provoking. Seems like David S doesn't have his head screwed on properly....generalising and giving people wrong perception of others.... I wonder if he has kids....
wow, I need to watch BBC more often. I'm as white as they come and that guy is a racist. He absolutely gave the impression that black people are associated with criminality and now the whites have become like the blacks he speaks of. Ridiculous. He did glaze over a truth though that I have been recognizing in America for some time now.
The culture in America has turned closer towards Hip-hop than I can ever remember. When I was a kid, I used to listen to NWA on my Sony Walkman and hid it from my parents because they would not approve. Now today, my children listen to a mix of artists, from whites to black, to Jamaican, etc. Culturally, we have evolved to better understand how different people are and we are learning to embrace those differences.
When I see a "proper" British historian like Starkey above, I always wonder if they have some poor, little Filipino boy locked in a closet wearing a leather ball-gag. What an idiot. I look forward to the day when we are all one shade of brown.
Racism is still alive and well... a universal travesty. It will be until the end of time. The only thing we can do is be stronger and continue to call people on the carpet for their ignorance. It hurts and no one is judged by their culture or color of their skin. It is the heart that matters and what comes out of the mouth. Thank you for letting us share.

Another catchy title , you really know how to attract the audience and you are a great writer and you are sending a wonderful MSG through your hub here
Typical politician, blaming his problems on someone else. At least he was speaking his mind even if he was ignorant and misguided. Great Hub
