Victor Mavedzenge-Paintings 2012

Victor Mavedzenge is a fine artist born in ZImbabwe and currently living in Oakland California. He studied art at various institutions which include, The Harare Polytechnic, Zimbabwe between 1995-1999. Studying for a diploma in fine art under the mentorship of Chiko Chazunguza, John Malagala,Jane Shepherd and Kate Raath. In 2007 he was the recipient of the Canon Collins Scholarship for Southern Africa.This enabled him to study abroad in London England where he undertook a Post Graduate Diploma in Fine Art at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design before pursuing a Masters of fine art Degree at the renowned Slade School of Fine Art (University College London) between 2008 and 2010.

In October 2011, he moved to Oakland California where he currently lives and works both as an artist and an art teacher at Youth Spirit Artworks.

Group Exhibitions to date

Since arriving in California,Victor has been part of two group exhibitions, "Blamour"- which had a week long run at Gordon Joyce Gallery in Oakland and "The 4 R's" at Expressions Gallery,running from June 9 to August 31 2012.

La Pena Cultural Center is the host of Victor Mavedzenge's first solo exhibition in California. With a total of 21 paintings dating back to 2009, the abstract work offers a rare and expansive look at the development of Victor's style over the years.The most interesting change being significantly noticeable in the light filled paintings he did since leaving London for California.

Aptly titled "One for the 99" the exhibitions names sake, the painting "one for the 99" ,pictured left, is on a silent auction to help raise funds for Youth Spirit Artworks, an interfaith job training program in Berkeley California where Victor works as a senior artist. 50% of all funds raised in this auction will be donated to Youth Spirit Artworks
